Airtime in Cleveland

Cleveland, OH -- Not since the Sierra Club's first-ever Presidential endorsement, of Walter Mondale back in 1984, has a Club Presidential endorsement gotten the kind of media attention that our endorsement of Barack Obama received on Friday.  Perhaps it was the unusual joint announcement with Leo Gerard of the United Steelworkers and Allison Chin, President of the Sierra Club. Perhaps it was the centrality of our message -- that a new energy future is the key to our economy, our environment, and our security -- to this year's Presidential dialogue. Perhaps it was the fact that Senator John McCain, who had been sitting on the fence on environmental issues all year, picked last week to fall off -- firmly inside George Bush's Big Oil corral.

But the audience understood that Obama gets it -- that if Obama were in the White House there wouldn't be any doubt that we would be pushing wind, solar, and a host of new energy technologies to the forefront, instead of extending bloated subsidies to oil and nuclear -- that Obama believes that green jobs are the American future.

Senator Sherrod Brown was there, one of the people in the U.S. Senate who gets it best -- and the Ohio that two years ago sent Brown to the Senate and elected Ted Strickland as Governor, is poised to make Barack Obama our next President, and the first green leader of the 21st century.

You are an idot dude, Obama is taking money from the CEO of Excelon, no nuclear????. Are you really that stupid or just lying to us? I mean really come on. I won"t be voting for McCain but don't be a liar, okay, just come out and say Obama is the less of 2 evils.

Polar bear,?What kind of name is that?Your a confused liberal.I bet you pray to Mohomod algore every day. When you bow down make sure your ass points to Tennasse(algores palace).

I have followed your work and activities and activist involvement for some years. I have joined the Sierra Club in order to help you forward your good work in protecting our earth and our environment.

I am very disappointed with your blatant promotion of Barack Obama.

Regardless of how you may feel about the intentions of any particular candidate for any political office, the effort should be to advance these causes - NOT to advance any candidate.

You, with the support of your members and contributers, should be challenging any and all candidates to step up to the right environmental causes. When you become a supporter of Obama you become inclined to follow his lead. And you alienate those who might disagree with him.

I am hopeful that both Obama and McCain will work at improving our environment. Whether either become president is secondary to this cause.

I am personally glad that the Sierra Club is taking a firm stance in Presidential politics. For liberals and centrists alike, Obama will further our causes with integrity, commitment and energy. McCain would only be a continuation of the Bush debacle and after his eight year, ruinous Presidency, could we take any more from McCain? For anyone who has a small gripe about Obama, please think of the dire consequences of a McCain victory. We need change, we need innovative leadership and we need the hope for the future that Obama will bring. His endorsements range from two generations of Kennedy's to even Eisenhower's grand daughter! Obama is the man who can change America, AND ITS IMAGE ABROAD for the better AND he will be an environmentalist of the first order.

LOL, a small gripe about Obama ha ha - taking money from a nuclear company and then changing your stance on nuclear reporting requirements is small LOL.
