Combining Clean Energy Watch with The Compass

Some big news here - Clean Energy Watch is now being combined with the Sierra Club's other major blog - The Compass. From now on you'll be able to read all of our excellent and insightful posts (yes, I'm biased) on energy and global warming issues over at www.sierraclub.org/compass.

This page will remain up for people to peruse the archives, but all new posts will be over at The Compass. Enjoy!

Dear Sierra Club–

My name is Emily Lamont from the CBS Evening News. I thought you and your readers might be interested in an interview Katie Couric conducted earlier this week with energy investor T. Boone Pickens Jr. about his plan to decrease US dependence on foreign oil through the development of alternative energy sources.

Although a 4 minute clip of the interviewed aired on the CBS Evening News Tuesday night, we have provided the full 12 minute interview on our website. In this “only on the web” interview Mr. Pickens dives into the value of wind power. Pickens explains, “It is time to develop the resources in America and quit importing foreign oil.” Serious about wind power, he has committed to a budget of 58 million dollars in hopes of elevating it to the presidential debate.

Couric asked him about a range of topics from his thoughts on why the price of oil is so high to his personal feelings on President Bush. Pickens ends the interview discussing why he gave $6 million to the Swift Boat group against John Kerry, and promising that “it was the facts” and not “dirty politics.”

For more on this fascinating, and important, interview, go to http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/i_video/main500251.shtml?id=4245623n?source=search_video. For more information on Pickens, check out his website: PickensPlan.com.

If you have any questions, please let me know. We would love to hear your reaction to the story, so if you post about it I will be sure to pass your thoughts along to the producers.

Cheers, Emily
