Storing wind power underwater?
CNN.com has an article up now about the potential to store wind power underwater. Sounds strange enough, but the information is interesting. One does wonder about the environmental impacts of what it takes to store it underwater.
From the article:
Naturally, storing vast amounts of air requires vast amounts of storage. Professor (Semaus) Garvey envisages a cone-like structure stretching 50 meters wide at the top to around 80 meters across at the base. The bags are made of a combination of plastics. "A polyester reinforcement at the core with probably a polytheme layer around that," Garvey said.
Later in the article Professor Garvey talks up nuclear energy - which is unfortunate. But at least the wind power storage section is interesting.
