Rollover (this post from Emanuel F.)

Yes to the posts below. I don’t know if it is because I have a bad cell phone plan but if I don’t use my minutes, they roll over for a couple of months until I use them or lose them. And I think it is time for Congress to take a cell phone company approach with the drilling permits. I say this because according to the Bureau of Land Management, Big Oil has over 700 drilling permits – 68 million acres – where no drilling is taking place.

I am glad to see that the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has called for legislation that will put pressure on Big Oil to increase production in these public lands that are already available for drilling -- or lose their permits to someone else that will.

The President’s ‘drill only’ approach to open new, pristine areas to drilling will do nothing to address America’s pain at the pump and will not increase supply for years. Lifting the Outer Continental Shelf Moratorium will put at risk the Coastal economies that rely on fisheries and tourism. Offshore drilling is just an attempt to alleviate the symptoms of our oil dependence instead of creating a real solution to the problem by creating a clean energy economy. It's time to take back the giveaways to Big Oil and invest in clean, renewable energy and efficiency which will save us money and create jobs.

Tell your members of Congress we cannot drill our way out of our energy crisis.

It's a hard truth, but the era of cheap oil, unlike cheap cell phone plans, is over. And opening up environmentally sensitive areas to oil drilling will not bring it back.
