Coal Executive: "Black is the new green"

Smokestack Those are the words from Peabody Energy CEO Gregory Boyce in this USA Today article all about coal.

The full quote: "There's a perception out there that coal is dirty, and we have to change that," (Boyce) adds, noting that coal plants already have cut emissions of some pollutants and boosted efficiency to slash CO2 discharges. "Black is the new green."

Sorry, Mr. Boyce, coal is not clean. It's the biggest contributor to global warming, and coal to liquids produces even more harmful global warming pollution. And I haven't even yet mentioned the other toxins that are released when using coal for power (mercury, for one)....and how about the destruction of entire mountains and communities because of mountaintop removal coal mining? Now tell me how clean and green coal is.

I have to agree with you. I was raised on a farm in Idaho and as a youngster all we had was an old coal burning stove. I was responsible for filling the stove with coal and cleaning out the clinckers daily. It is very, very dirty and I am a witness!
