Energy News Hits
Three interesting energy news hits of note for today:
The NY Times has an interesting article about the "Escape From Berkeley" race, where eco-cars have to make it from Berkeley, Calif., to Las Vegas, Nev., without using a drop of petroleum. Race organizers didn't think anyone would make it - but two cars did!
And some coal news out of Wyoming - the proposed coal-fired power plant near Medicine Bow has been delayed for another year.
Finally, the Wisconsin Public Services Commission (PSC) recently issued a draft report on offshore wind power feasibility for the Great Lakes. They're now seeking public input on the report. From our coal campaign, "the report indicates that the cost of offshore wind is likely more expensive than terrestrial wind at present, there are many upsides to offshore wind, including higher capacity factors, less local land-use conflict potential, and huge amounts of potential (tens of thousands of megawatts). The next step is to identify areas where wind development has limited environmental impacts."
