Tar Sands Rally 'Round the White House a Huge Success
More than 12,000 people showed up to circle the White House yesterday in a call to President Obama to reject the proposed TransCanada Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline.
Organizers had originally aimed at circling the White House once - but enough people showed up to circle the White House at least three people deep.
Pre-circling and post-circling rallies were held across from the White House, and speakers including Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune, Bill McKibben, and many others took to the mic to call on the U.S. to move beyond fossil fuels and say no to Canada's tar sands oil.
