Supporting a Rooftop Revolution
Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune has been spending a lot of time on his roof lately, and bragging about it. And rightly so - he just had solar panels installed.
Now Mike is videotaping himself on the roof of his house to talk about a Rooftop Revolution- the new book by Danny Kennedy.
"House by house, street by street, town by town, and state by state, we're going to create a society in America that is powered by clean energy," Mike says.
I recently read this book as well and was just as inspired. Author Danny Kennedy does a great job showing how possible it is to power our country with clean energy -- especially with solar power. Despite all the money poured into politics by the dirty energy industry, Americans still believe in and want clean energy to power our nation.
Over a ten-year-period, the solar industry created 5.65 jobs per million dollars invested, whereas the entire coal-fired power generation chain produces only 3.96 jobs per million dollars sunk into it. Put head to head against coal mining, solar produced 40 percent more employment per dollar invested. That means we get more jobs and less poison when we get electricity straight from the sun.
Listen to Danny talk about his vision for a rooftop revolution in this video.
(If you want to hear him get more in-depth on the issue, check out this 12 minute interview)
Another quote I loved from the book: "Putting partisan politics before U.S. competitiveness in clean energy will cost more US jobs and lives in the years to come."
I encourage you to check out the book, and then get a quote to put solar on your own roof!
