In late July, the Obama Administration agreed to protect 170,000 acres of critical habitat in buffer zones south of Teshekpuk Lake (located in northern Alaska) from oil and gas leasing. The precious ecosystem is the biological center of the western Arctic, inhabited by species like the caribou, Canada Geese, and Black Brant. This has been a major goal of Sierra Club’s Arctic campaign for over 10 years!
