Public Screening in Virginia for "Coal Country," a Sierra Club Production

What: Join Appalachian Voices for a $5 screening of Sierra Club production "Coal Country," a dramatic documentary about Appalachia's citizen's struggle with coal. A public reception after the screening will include appearances by Director Mari-Lynn Evans and activists from the movie in addition to special entertainment.

When: Thursday, August 12th; doors open at 7pm, screening starts at 7:30pm, public reception follows

Sierra Club is collaborating with venture capital firms across the San Francisco Bay Area to co-host a series of salons intended to identify the key policy ideas and innovations needed to disrupt and transform America's energy economy.

Scottish Government Honors John Muir

As part of Scottish Week in North America, Scottish dignitaries joined Sierra Club Deputy Executive Director Bruce Hamilton, John Muir National Historic Site General Superintendent Martha Lee, and kids from Sierra Club's Inner City Outings program to plant a sapling in the Edgar and Peggy Wayburn Redwood Grove.

The tree-planting was followed by a reception that included a presentation on John Muir's Legacy in a Climate-Challenged World, featuring Michael Russell, Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Education; John Hutchison, chairman of the John Muir Trust; and Sierra Club Chairman Carl Pope.
