 Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery (1997)

This Ken Burns documentary is a classic, blending history and remarkable scenery together in two disks. Burns accurately traces the Corps of Discovery as they make their way across the uncharted wilderness of the western United States to the Pacific coast and back, subsequent to President Jefferson's purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France in 1803. Burns' sources include the journals of the men who participated in the expedition, and interviews of historians, authors and native Americans with knowledge of this remarkable exploration.

I am a History teacher & huge fan of Lewis & Clark, having read some of their journals. I was previously aware of only one movie by National Geographic narrated by Jeff Bridges. It is very good and I have shown it to my class. It is a wonderful, accurate re-enactment - a must see. However, I will definitely check the one made by Ken Burns. The trailer is well-done, though it might have been better to show some of the beginning or middle of the movie rather than the end, which is sad. Still, it looks great and I would love to see it.
