Fall Foods: Sweet Potatoes, Figs, Grapes
It’s getting a bit colder, the days are shorter, leaves are changing color--and so are green shopping lists, because locally-available foods change with the seasons. Chances are that if you're eating summer foods like fava beans, peaches, raspberries, string beans, and plums this time of year, they've been shipped long distances to your local store. That can mean not only transportation-related emissions, but also higher prices and less freshness. Fortunately, eco-minded shoppers and foodies are in for a bounty of treats this time of year, as pumpkins, squashes, sweet potatoes, carrots, leeks, apples, pears, figs, and grapes all come into season.
Up Next: Tomorrow we’ll share a great fall recipe with some of these yummy seasonal choices.
