Green Your DIY Gifts: Nontoxic Materials

Warning_sign Feeling the economic pinch or are you just the crafty type? This week, we offer tips to help you green your inexpensive do-it-yourself projects.

Tip #2: Using Nontoxic Materials

So you're making green gifts for your loved ones by using recycled and found objects. Perfect! But what about your toxic glue? Lots of artists’ materials are health and environmental nightmares. With that in mind, consider using environmentally friendly, nontoxic adhesives, paints, inks, and solvents.

In particular, paints, pigments, and enamels often contain lead and other dangerous metals. Nontoxic options do exist. If you can’t find a nontoxic alternative, you can minimize your personal exposure by wearing gloves and keeping the work area well-ventilated.
