Invest In The Planet By Paying It Green
U.S. businesses have saved $6.7 billion over the last ten years by paying employees via Direct Deposit instead of issuing paper checks. They've also saved natural resources and reduced their carbon footprint.
A new study by the Pay It Green Alliance, a nonprofit representing some 11,000 financial institutions, showed that if all 120 million American employees had access to Direct Deposit, the savings would be more than 11 million pounds of paper, 106 million gallons of water, 4 million gallons of gas, and 31 million pounds of emissions.
The Pay It Green Alliance was formed in 2007 to educate consumers about the environmental impact of choosing electronic bills, statements, and payments instead of paper. You can calculate your paper footprint on their green calculator.
Companies can also learn their specific payroll savings by using the Direct Deposit Cost Calculator developed by ElectronicPayments.org (click the "Business" tab at the top of the page).
