Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign
The U.N. Environment Programme teamed up with some of today's up-and-coming artists and athletes to inspire the world to fight climate change through tree-planting.
World Environment Day, June 5, kicks off the global campaign that aims to plant 7 billion trees, one for each person on the planet, before 2010. Hip-hop artists Pharaohe Monch and Mystic lead by example and recorded a PSA to ask viewers to donate $1 to social venture Mokugift, which will then plant a tree in one of 12 African, Asian, or Central American countries.
The Billion Tree Campaign focuses attention on tree-planting as part of a larger awareness-raising campaign leading up to a crucial climate policy meeting in Copenhagen this December. Donate through Mokugift to get your own homepage to encourage others to plant or "gift" trees.
