SF Goes Local: San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom ordered all his city’s departments to determine which local lands can be used for community gardens, and decreed that all food served at city functions be grown locally and sustainably. GreenBiz.com

Africa --> Europe: Plans have begun for a $500+ billion project to transport solar energy from Africa to Europe, enough to possibly provide 15 percent of the northern continent's electricity by 2050. ENN and Wall Street Journal
