Greenwashing Bamboo Fabrics
Greenwashing Alert: The Federal Trade Commission's recent report, "Have You Been Bamboozled by Bamboo Fabrics?" charges that many so-called bamboo fabrics are actually made of rayon. Fast-growing bamboo can be cultivated without pesticides, whereas rayon production uses toxic chemicals. How can you tell if your T-shirt or bedspread is rayon? The report says "textiles made just from bamboo fiber don’t feel silky smooth." So if a "bamboo" fabric feels soft, it's probably rayon.
