Here's the Catch: According to a recent study, electric cars will not be much greener than petroleum-powered cars if the United States continues to generate power by burning coal. Reuters

Separate Lives: A San Francisco ordinance took effect today that requires residents to separate their compost and recyclables. Examiner and New York Times

The Game Plan: The European Union's planned proposal for the Copenhagen summit includes a 20 percent cut in global emissions by ships and a 10 percent cut in aviation emissions. Wall Street Journal

Good Growing: Researchers at Oregon State University and the Pacific Northwest Research Station predict an increase in the productivity of the region's high-elevation forests due to global warming. Science Daily
