Sunny Days Expected at School District

With budget cuts at many schools, one district has found a way to save money and help the environment. California's Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) plans to install solar panels on 21 locations, saving the district about $17 million over the next 20 years.
 
IUSD worked with SunEdison in one of the largest agreements between a public-school system and energy company ever. The district is expected to finalize the agreement today.

The district won't pay any of the initial installation costs and will receive a huge discount on energy fees. The solar panels will lower carbon emissions by 127 million pounds in the first year, the equivalent of removing 1,200 cars from the roads. Also, an educational program will be created to teach students about the benefits of solar power.
