Green Your City: Organize a Cleanup

Help the Sierra Club turn America green by taking your eco-habits to the streets. This week's tips are about how to green your town.

Tip #1: Clean a Park or Beach 

Choose a park or beach in your community that could use a makeover, then organize an outing to pick up litter there. It's a good idea to notify city officials and local businesses of your plans so you can get approval, and maybe some refreshments to reward your fellow do-gooders. Recycle and compost what you can, and contact your local waste-management provider and recycling center to tell them of your deposit. Your work will encourage more responsible use of the space, and make it safer for wildlife.
