Bright Plans: The proposed Westlands Solar Park would convert thousands of acres of farmland in central California into a solar-power facility that could generate as much energy as several large nuclear plants. New York Times

Deal Breaker: A giant iceberg more than four times the size of Manhattan has broken off from a glacier in Greenland. It could drift toward oil platforms and shipping lanes to cause offshore damage. San Francisco Chronicle

Pioneering Portuguese: Portugal plans to introduce a national network of electric-car charging stations and move toward having 45% of its electricity derived from renewable sources. New York Times  

Easy Rollin': Chemists and engineers are working to make tires eco-friendlier by designing them to be less resistant and manufacturing them from renewable sources instead of crude oil. Scientific American
