Green Your Bathroom: Linens and Things

Towels The bathroom is another space in your home that can be easily tweaked to reflect your sustainability values. This week’s tips provide simple ways to do so.

Tip #4: Mind the Soft Stuff

Linens – towels, bath rugs, washcloths, robes and the like – should be made of organic, natural fibers such as hemp, bamboo, or organic cotton. Shower curtains made of these more sustainable materials can protect your health too, since they won’t react to heat by releasing volatile and potentially toxic compounds, as vinyls tend to do. When shopping, check an item’s label to make sure the dye used on the fabric is nontoxic.

Tell us: How do you keep your linens green?
