Green Your College-Bound Kid: Dorm Furnishings

Girl on couchTimed with the release of Sierra magazine's fourth annual "Coolest Schools" issue, this week's tips provide green advice for the college-bound kid. Even if your school didn't make the top 100, you can still score a perfect ten when it comes to living sustainably away from home.

Tip #4: Room Raiders 

College students tend to move into a new dorm or apartment each year, so storing tons of furniture gets tricky. To be minimalist, think simple and opt for pieces that can do double or triple duty. An eco-friendly futon, for example, can function as a couch by day and a bed by night.
