Inception: Solar-Powered Dreams
During a recent interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Leonardo DiCaprio gushed about the solar energy generators that were used to power the set of Inception. The summer sensation hit theaters in mid-July, and has introduced a way for big-budget movies to be made on a greener scale.
DiCaprio made the film's premise – that an idea is humankind's most powerful tool – a reality by pursuing the greener set. The environmental activist has discussed the solar panels used for Inception on his Facebook page in an effort to encourage more movie producers in Hollywood to use green power sources.
"A lot of this movie [Inception] was made with solar power," noted DiCaprio in his interview. Pure Power Distribution supplied Warner Brothers with the solar-powered generators for the Inception set. They were able to provide power to the entire movie set, with the exception of two trailers, corresponding to the equivalent output of eight houses.
Here are the photos he posted of the generators on set.
DiCaprio concluded, "We do a lot of things in the world that are wasteful. We keep talking about this all the time. Hopefully, fingers crossed, with these small steps, we’ll make that transition on a much larger scale in the future.”
