Green Your Hotel Stay: Leave the Little Bottles
Vacations can be wonderful – but some check out of their eco-values as soon as they check into a hotel. Whether your shelter for the night is a Ritz-Carlton or a Motel 6, this week’s tips should help you keep your hotel stay green.
Tip #1: Leave the Little Bottles
It’s tempting to scoop up all those little shampoo bottles and wrapped soaps so that housekeeping replaces them with new ones that you can then hoard home. However, what seem like freebies to you do exact a cost on the planet: Producing them requires resources and emits pollution, transporting them burns fossil fuels, and their packaging is likely to end up in a landfill. Better to just keep a normal-sized shampoo bottle and bar soap at home, and the mini-toiletries at the hotel.
Tip #2: Monitor the Thermostat
Tip #3: Book at a Green Hotel
