Love the Arctic on its 50th Birthday
'Tis the season for parties. So why not throw one for a good cause? Dec. 6 is the 50th anniversary of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the biological heart of Alaska. Here at the Sierra Club, we've loved its rolling tundra, wild rivers, and diverse wildlife for years, and have worked to protect it from oil and gas drillers. We want to make sure that one of America's last wild places stays safe, and you can help by celebrating.
Sign up to host a house party (by Wed., Nov. 24), invite your friends, and tell them how much you love the Arctic. Show them The Refuge, a 10-minute film about one of the iciest, most stunning places on Earth; before long, they'll be falling in love too.
Fifty years ago, President Eisenhower was so taken by the Arctic's beauty that he protected it for future generations. Now's our chance to encourage our president to make a similar commitment. Sign the 50th anniversary card to President Obama, encouraging him to permanently protect the refuge by declaring it a national monument.
