A Cure for the Common Weekend
It’s all too easy to get swept up in the current of a crazy workweek. Thursday rolls around, and when someone asks what you’re up to this weekend you stare blankly, feeling vaguely guilty that you haven’t had a chance to plan some wildly exciting contrast to your week of commutes, conference calls, and lunches eaten on the run. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone could round up a list of potential adventures for you before you spent another Saturday watching TV, doing laundry, and wondering why weekends never feel like weekends anymore?
Cue Weekend Sherpa, a free weekly guide to outdoor activities in Northern California. Started in 2006 by an enterprising San Franciscan, the site sends out an email full of seasonally appropriate suggestions each Thursday, giving you time to plan a weekend excursion. Suggested activities are mostly geared to the outdoorsy set, but many are family-friendly, or good for dogs, couples, or wine lovers.
Word is that there's a SoCal edition underway, and we hope the idea will catch on in other states. If you live in the Bay Area, subscribe to Weekend Sherpa. Those in other places: Find a Sierra Club-led local outing near you.
