Green Jobs Make Employees Happier

I am so happy that my office has gone green! If your boss still isn't convinced, we've found yet another reason for companies to go green: Eco-friendly workplaces have happier employees. A recent study found that morale is higher when employees perceive their companies as environmentally responsible.

Interestingly, the study also found that a firm's financial health didn't affect employees well-being (though it probably did affect their paychecks). Even so, with the growing green-collar economy offering new job opportunities, some employees may find be lucky enough to have it all — a green company that's also financially viable.

As our recent review of The Economics of Happiness suggests, locally based economies and community networks have the power to change our lives for the better. Corporate environmental responsibility shows a measure of concern for both community and the planet, so we're not surprised that workers would find more contentment in an eco-friendly office.
