Damage Control: The 8.9 earthquake that struck Japan on Mar. 11 damaged the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Attempts are being made to cool down the reactors to prevent a full-fledged meltdown. Washington Post and Yahoo! News

Red Light: House Republicans are working to pass the Energy Tax Prevention Act in California, which would revoke the EPA’s authority to grant California the federal waivers it needs to impose tougher fuel-efficiency requirements based on carbon emissions. San Francisco Chronicle

Carbon Cuts: Environment ministers from seven E.U. countries have proposed to deepen cuts to greenhouse gases beyond the current 20% target by the end of this decade. Reuters

Water Wars: The EPA wants to limit the waste entering Florida’s waterways, prompting major protest from political figures and industry groups who believe the new criteria will be too expensive to implement. Florida Independent
