Pictures from Earth Hour
National Geographic has compiled a photo gallery showcasing places around the world before and during Earth Hour, which happened this past Saturday, Mar. 26.
This year, 134 countries participated, turning off lights for 60 minutes to raise awareness about the need to take action about climate change. Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour was conceived in 2007, when 2.2 million Sydney residents turned off all non-essential lights. Other major cities adopted the event in 2008.
