Green Your Garden: Plant for Community
This week’s tips are about how to cultivate a sustainable garden; the goal is to keep you seeing green through the end of summer.
Tip #4: Share the Wealth.
Community gardens can lighten the burden of maintaining a productive garden, making the growing of food a social activity. These cheerful operations also let people without much of their own space (hear that, apartment-dwellers?) get their hands dirty in their own neighborhood. Programs such as Plant a Row for the Hungry and certain Second Harvest branches encourage gardeners to grow a little extra for local food banks and homeless shelters.
Tell us: With whom do you share your excess?
