Fashion Monday: Kick Ash in Your Underwear
Who says you can't change the world by changing your underwear? The Sierra Student Coalition has teamed up with PACT, an underwear company that uses fair-trade and sustainable practices, to produce a unique line of scanties in support of the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign.
Invoking a practice that only the collegiate crowd could embrace, students are stripping down to their Beyond Coal bikinis and kick ash boyshorts to take part in "undie runs" and flash mobs on campuses all over the U.S. Their aim? Expose coal for the dirty environmental practice that it is and promote the transition to alternative energy sources on college campuses.
It appears that cheeky tactic is working too: just days after an undie run at Miami University of Ohio, campus officials agreed to set a date to shut down operations of the campus' coal-fired power plant in the coming years. That amounts to 16 campuses that have agreed to similar goals.
