Green Fashion Monday: A Pop-Top Purse

Escama bag On Fashion Monday, we highlight a hip, green fashion item. Got a stylish eco-friendly product to recommend? Tell us about it and look for it in an upcoming blog post.

One of this season’s biggest fashion trends is metallic, but we've got a feeling that this Leda bag ($150) from Escama Studio won’t go out of style anytime soon. It’s a classically designed handbag with a twist: Its shell’s made of post-consumer soda-can tabs, the aluminum surprisingly clean and bright. The pop-top pieces are crocheted together by artisans in Brazil who get fair wages and educational opportunities for their labor. Escama’s purses comes with a paper tag hand-signed by the craftsperson who made it; if you get intrigued by the handwriting, you can go to Escama’s site to meet your artisan and even send a thank-you note for her work.
