Green Your Graduation: Rent a Gown

Graduation It’s graduation time, and across America, gleeful students are tossing  their caps. This week's tips will get you ready for a commencement that will make your parents, including Mother Earth, proud.

Tip # 1: Wear a Greener Gown

The graduation gown: You buy it, you wear it once, you stuff it in your closet, never to be seen again. This year, some schools are turning to eco-alternatives, opting for gowns made of recycled bottles or biodegradable fiber. Which is a great first step, but anything new in the waste stream can be bad news. Consider taking the no-waste route by renting a gown. What if your school doesn’t offer rentals and you can't find a loaner in your needed color? Ask a recent alum to borrow theirs. If you've gotta buy, donate your gown to a younger sibling or friend.

Tip #2: Give an Eco-Gift

Tip #3: Spread the News

Tip #4: Make a Promise

Tell us: How do you plan to green your graduation celebration?
