Extreme Outdoor Adventures: Climbing

Jimmy chinFor some outdoor adventurers, nothing beats a thrilling, death-defying interaction with nature. This week, we'll show you extreme feats from the outdoor sporting world — at least the ones that were captured on film.

Extreme Climbers

Jimmy Chin is one of the five photographers recently featured in Sierra magazine's climbing slideshow. Chin has accompanied well-known adventurers Ed Viesturs and Conrad Anker as well as young phenoms like Alex Honnold. Author Jonathan Thesenga explains why shutterbugs like Chin must possess the athleticism and guts to match their aesthetic sense: "To get great images of world-class climbers in crazy places, shooters must be willing to join them on the wall."

Watch the video below to hear Chin's thoughts on free soloist Alex Honnold — and to see Honnold's mind-blowing ascent of Half Dome.
