Snip.it to Save It

This Earth Day, raise awareness about the eco-issue closest to your heart. How? Via a Snip.it collection.

Never heard of this new social-media outlet? Just imagine the love child of Pinterest and Tumblr — but with a decidedly journalistic take. As you browse the web, you can save and categorize articles and blog posts under a collection of your creation. Make it as specific ("microbial energy sources") or as broad ("the planet") as you want.

The Snip.it team noticed that a good amount of snippers were particularly green in their sharing. To celebrate the trend, they created an Earth Day contest to help raise awareness of environmental issues. To enter, simply create a category for the environmental issue that matters most to you. Whomever adds the best original and thought-provoking collection of articles, links, and videos, will win. First place is a new iPad for you and a $200 donation for the environmental nonprofit of your choice.

A panel of six judges, which includes influentials like Vinod Khosla (he founded Sun Microsystems and is now a big-time cleantech investor) and Chip Giller (he started Grist), will be looking for content depth, originality, and, yup, Facebook likes. The Sierra Club's own Avital Binshtock will also be a judge. 

Snips can be added to collections through this Friday, April 20. Start yours now to share what you'll be celebrating this Earth Day.
