Downsize Your Domain: 3 Space Savers

Tiny houseCould you live in a 500-square-foot house? If the answer is yes, kudos! For the rest of us, it can be a struggle to consume less energy, buy less stuff, and keep the house clean and green. Fear not. This week, we'll show you how to simplify your life and maximize your space.

3 Types of Transformative Beds

Make the most of a small space with furniture that can serve multiple functions. These transformative beds save both money and materials. After all, you don't need to buy two separate pieces of furniture to get two separate pieces of furniture.

1. A bunk bed that turns into a couch.

Okay. We know what futons are. They're the beds that turn into couches. But a bunk bed that turns into a couch? Complete with two stories and a ladder? Yes. Fancy, we know. This awesome addition maximizes living and bedroom space. Fold it in half during the day for lounging, entertaining guests, or watching television, and fold it down in the evening for. . . well, lounging, entertaining guests, or watching television. But hey, the point is that you don't need two separate rooms to do both.

2. A bed that turns into a desk.

The great thing about these beds is that they don't look awkwardly out of place -- that is, the desk actually looks like a desk, and not a bed trying to be a desk. Tasteful, compact, neat, and beautifully designed, this type of bed serves as both your work and sleep station in a safe, easy, and space-saving way.

3. Beds that turn into...walls?

If you thought the two examples above were maximizing space, think again. Maybe we've seen this before in American Psycho or other films with a more sci-fi feel, but if you're looking for a stylish, condensed, and witty way to capitalize on simple living with in-home geography to spare, this is it. With its base doubling as a couch, wall-beds take comfort and functionality to a whole new level.
