Downsize Your Domain: 3 Sneaky Storage Spaces

Secret storage spaces
Could you live in a 500-square-foot house? If the answer is yes, kudos! For the rest of us, it can be a struggle to consume less energy, buy less stuff, and keep the house clean and green. Fear not. This week, we'll show you how to simplify your life and maximize your space.

3 Sneaky Storage Spaces

1. Bookshelf + Chair

Bookshelves

We all know that bookshelves are great for storing, well, books. But designers have also come up with some pretty nifty ideas to make the most of your library space by combining the bookshelf and the reading chair into one piece. One example is the Bibliochaise, a chair that almost appears to be made of books. Another stylish and functional idea is the Cave, a bookcase with a seating nook curled within the shelf.

2. Closet + Office

If you find yourself with an empty closet to spare after mastering our three simple habits, you may consider turning that closet into some personal space. Measure the inside dimensions and add a small desk to turn the storage space into a corner office. Instead of tempting yourself with an empty wardrobe closet that needs to be filled, ensure that you maximize the geography of your home by making every area and square inch not only useful, but efficient.

3. Furniture + Storage

Furniture with installed storage units make for some pretty amazing magic. From coffee tables to beds with drawers underneath to couches whose cushions can be lifted to fit in extra blankets, it's always great to be able to buy a piece that functions like a cabinet without looking like one. This type of furniture gives you the ability to both furnish and stockpile your essentials without the need for extra space.
