Recipe: Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Cranberry sauce is one of those side dishes that people generally get from a can. But why settle for the store-bought stuff when making your own is easy and tastier?
Ingredients:
- 12 ounces of cranberries
- 1 orange
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup water
Directions:
In a saucepan, bring to boil ¾ of a cup of water. Stir in ¾ of a cup of sugar until it dissolves, then add your cranberries. Zest and juice the orange and add that to the mixture as well. Let everything come to a boil.
Once the mixture come to a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes or until the cranberries start to burst and the sauce thickens. At this point you could add spices such as cinnamon, allspice or nutmeg, but for this recipe we kept it basic.
Remove from heat, and let the sauce cool to room temperature. Once it has cooled down enough, transfer the sauce to the refrigerator so that it can thicken completely. When dinner is ready, pull it out of the fridge and you’ll have a fresh, homemade addition to your meal.
