Polar Bear Dance Parties take the Country by Arctic Storm

On April 28, 2012, hundreds of people around the nation came together for Polar Bear Dance Parties – we danced to celebrate the Arctic and protect the Polar Bear Seas from oil drilling.

Our dance parties brought people together from across the country to celebrate the Arctic.  Together we made the World Record for "Largest Group of People Dressed as Polar Bears While Dancing in 24 hours!"

 

Over 40 events were registered across the nation, but even with reports from only half, we know 391 people came together to dance like polar bears!  Check out the parties that reported back, the photos are here and find the videos by following the links:

These dance parties showed how passionate Americans are about protecting the Polar Bear Seas (in the Arctic Ocean) from offshore oil drilling.  But right now, Shell Oil's drill ships are headed to America's Arctic to begin drilling in the Polar Bear Seas this summer. We still have one last chance to stop them by working together across the nation.

So far, over one million people have taken action to protect the Polar Bear Seas. You can add your voice by taking action here. With the enthusiasm from our dance parties, we will be delivering over one million petition signatures, letters, comments, and dance videos to the White House on May 15.
We need to use the next few weeks to tell President Obama there should be no drilling in the Polar Bear Seas this summer.  The Polar Bear Seas are an amazing wild place, home to the entire population of US polar bears, as well as ice seals, whales and migratory birds. An oil spill here would be disastrous – the seas are covered in sea ice, dark two months out of the year, and located a thousand miles from the closest U.S. Coast Guard station.

President Obama needs to step in to stop drilling in the Polar Bear Seas this summer.  Millions of Americans are counting on it.
