The Women's Wilderness Institute is honored to be partnering with the Sierra Club in 2012 to “do something really special for wildness”. Women's Wilderness is offering a series of desert backpacking trips designed to connect our veterans and their families with wild places.
During April 17-20, and May 1-4, 2012, The Women's Wilderness Institute is offering 4-day backpacking trips in the Utah desert specifically for women veterans. Also being offered, April 24-27, is a trip open to all women spouses of veterans. Transportation is provided from our Boulder office to/from the trailhead, or participants may choose to meet in Grand Junction. The fee for participation is $100 per person. Participants must provide their own transportation to/from Boulder or Grand Junction.
The wilderness is a healing place for many people, where we can discover or recover a sense of peace and natural order in our world. The silence of a starry night; the sound of raindrops falling on the outside of your tent… the wilderness offers both a quiet that allows you to hear your own thoughts and voice, as well as the sounds that remind us all that we are a part of something greater.
The Women's Wilderness Institute is proud to offer our women veterans and women veteran spouses opportunities to explore, discover and relax in the wild places that their service has helped to protect.
If you are a woman veteran, or the woman spouse of a veteran, give us a call to learn more about our trips – 303-938-9191. If you know a person who might want to join us for one of these amazing adventures, send them a link to this blog, or the website www.womenswilderness.org
The Women's Wilderness Institute is a nonprofit organization with the mission of strengthening the courage, confidence, and leadership qualities of girls and women, through the support and challenge of wilderness- and community-based experiences. In addition to our work with women veterans, we offer a Girls’ Wilderness Program. This program gets girls ages 8-18 out exploring the wilderness using our girl-friendly program design, and has scholarships available. We also offer a variety of 1-4 adventures for adult women, as well as custom co-ed and single-sex programs.
The Women's Wilderness Institute is accredited by the Association of Experiential Education. For additional information, please contact Lori Matthews, lori@womenswilderness.org

His honorable Jim Dear speaks with Melissa McGinnis from Greenopolis TV about the 1000th trash truck to be ran off of liquefied natural gas, which services his community of Carson California. This momentous effort helps to keep the air clean by reducing green house gases and carbon, since the harvested gas from landfills burns at a much cleaner rate than regular diesel gas.http://www.onitsukatigeronline2012.com

We made big pots of pasta and had spaghetti dinners; we had pre-party parties; we had TV watch parties; we had birthday parties; and we had Christmas parties. The photo is from one such Christmas party. It was 1995, and we certainly dressed the part. My closest friends and I baked cookies and breads and made dips and worked tirelessly on our little holiday party menu; we even had an annual ornament exchange. And aren't we cute?
