Blacksburg On Board
In late January, a parade of hybrid cars, bicyclists, and two diesels whose drivers hope biodiesel will soon be available locally, made its way through downtown Blacksburg, Virginia, to an event celebrating the town's cool status. The town council officially signed onto the Sierra Club's Cool Cities campaign in November, passing two resolutions calling for Blacksburg to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. At the January 25 ceremony, David Bernard, chair of the Sierra Club's New River Group, presented Blackburg Mayor Ron Rordam with a plaque commending him for making Blacksburg the first "Cool Town" in the commonwealth, joining the cities of Alexandria, Charlottesville, Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg.
