Tens of thousands of Americans gathered from coast to coast on Saturday, April 14, for a National Day of Climate Action, the largest-ever demonstration against global warming, spearheaded by the group Step It Up. More than 100 partner organizations, incuding the Sierra Club, sponsored or endorsed rallies for Step It Up 2007. From the banks of the Mississippi River in New Orleans (above) to the national mall in Washington, D.C. (below) to the waters surrounding the Florida Keys (bottom), more than 1,400 rallies, actions, and demonstrations were held in all 50 states, calling on Congress to cut carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050. Read more about what the Sierra Club is doing to help combat global warming.
