Green Your Rental -- Composting

With home ownership climbing out of reach, going green at home increasingly means finding ways to conserve resources that won't get tenants in hot water with property owners. Want to green your rental? Here's how to get started.

Tip #3: Put food scraps to work

CompostbucketComposting: It's a no-brainer for gardeners, but not so obvious for the yardless among us. If your local waste management service picks up compost, you can store food scraps in an odor neutralizing bucket until garbage day. For garden-free folks whose cities don't offer composting services, green-thumbed neighbors and community gardens may gladly take "black gold" off your hands--just ask around. You might be surprised by the number of options at your disposal.
