Greening Your St. Patty's Day Brew

Beer To most people, St. Patrick’s Day means three things: 1. Celebrating the Irish. 2. Wearing green. 3. Drinking beer with friends. And while none of those activities is an obvious fix for environmental problems, going green on the day of green is a great way to honor how eco-practices can be integrated into our everyday lives.

Take beer. Sure, it’s a luxury that’s often mass-produced without concern for the Earth. But it’s easy to find small-scale brewers in your area to reduce energy from shipping. And some well-known craft brewers have been making truly green beer, so you can support their good work while kicking back. Of course, brewing your own organic ale is always a good choice. Check out Sierra magazine's beer taste test to read about our top picks for tasty, eco-friendly ales, and if you want to take a quiz called "How Green is My Beer?" click here.
