Video: Vancouver's Safe-Cycling Side

Residents of bike-friendly Vancouver began campaigning 15 years ago for a dedicated bike lane on one of the busy bridges connecting downtown and the city's southern neighborhoods. The city finally created a trial lane last year on Burrard Bridge.

Earlier this week, StreetFilms released this informative video documenting the bike lane's impacts over the past year. Not only did cycling traffic increase almost immediately by 30 percent, but Vancouverites say that separate spaces for bikes, pedestrians, and cars makes all commutes safer and faster. We hope these positive results will encourage other cities to follow Vancouver's lead and develop more cycling infrastructure.

Check out some of StreetFilms' other cool videos about all aspects of livable streets.
