Halloween Costume Swap Day is Saturday!
What's your child going to be for Halloween this year? A spider monkey? A pink wabbit? Maybe Hannah Montana? Or a lion!
Before you buy him or her yet another polyester outfit that’s doomed for the trash after a single use, consider swapping for it instead. If just half the 25 million children who celebrate Halloween in the U.S. exchanged costumes, they’d reduce landfill waste by 6,250 tons — that’s the weight of 2,500 midsized cars!
Three environmentally conscious organizations — Green Halloween, KIWI magazine, and Swap.com — teamed up to spread the word about the first annual swap day on Oct. 9 (that's a Saturday). To participate, find out if your community already has a swap planned. If not, organize one yourself!
After that, check out how to make your Halloween even greener.
