Green Your Environmental Justice: Join the Urban Farming Movement

Community gardens provide healthy food options In anticipation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 17, this week's tips will honor King's legacy by focusing on environmental justice, helping you fight for the dream that all communities, regardless of race or income level, can have freedom from pollution and the opportunity to benefit from the green economy.

Tip #3: Help Improve Access to Healthy Food

Many low-income Americans live in "food deserts," neighborhoods where affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables are unavailable. In response, the urban farming movement is empowering people to grow their own organic food, while other food activists are teaching children about gardening and healthy eating. Help your neighborhood bloom by transforming an empty lot into a community garden or advocating for agriculture at your child's school.
