All Cool on the Western Slope

The Roaring Fork Group of the Sierra Club has launched its Cool Communities Campaign to reduce global warming emissions in western Colorado. Modeled on the Club's Cool Cities project, the campaign kicked off in Glenwood Springs with a presentation by energy consultant Ken Regelson. "You hear about how this is going to cost a lot of money," Regelson told the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. "That may be true for the coal companies, but economically, overall, I think it's going to be terrific." He cited western Colorado's untapped potential for geothermal and solar power. Roaring Fork Group co-founder Maggie Pederson told the Sentinel that global warming could shorten ski seasons and cause more drought, wildfires, and insect infestations. Read more here.
